OASIS Diaspora Resource Village is our inspired concept for an eco-friendly, community-centered space that is both physical, in Benin Republic… and virtual, as an active online community designed to welcome, empower, and unite the African Diaspora. Founded by Phoenyx Reign and Temple Udunwa, OASIS is envisioned as a beacon of light, a safe landing spot, and a vibrant hub for diaspora returnees, expats, local partners, and global creatives seeking community, connection, and purpose. We have already secured leased a property with the option to purchase and have begun a rigorous plan to develop this unique space. But we need YOU… to be an active and involved member of the village…. in Benin… and Beyond.
This village-style compound will blend tradition, inspiration, innovation, and sustainability—inviting members into a thoughtfully designed environment where creativity, culture, productivity, and belonging come together.

Along this journey of relocating to the continent… I very quickly recognized the need for safe spaces, helping hands, and financial resources for solo sisters and sisters with children making this migration alone. I recognized that “when” a sister who dared make this journey happened to fall on hard times, there was not only a lack of resources or support anywhere on the continent… but sadly there is often a lack of support from “home”… only judgement.
One of my close diaspora sistren created a network called “The Sisters of Harriet” years ago… She is a powerful networker and connector and so whenever, wherever, there is a sister who makes a cry for help…. there is a sister of Harriet to help them to safety or a group of us to support the immediate need. Well… years later that has grown into “Harriet’s Place”… a global program that includes designated physical safespaces, emergency lodging, and financial assistance for Diasporan Women and Women w/Children. Benin just happened to be the first to get to the launch pad. “Harriet’s Place” is a global initiative of Greenbook International, a network of Black Expats around the world. Greenbook International is primarily made up of women, but not exclusively as there are male conductors in some countries. The goal is to eventually have “Harriet’s Place” Safe Spaces and Designated Conductors around the globe. This program is entirely community funded and reflects sisters and brothers standing together to support our sisters and children trying to make a settled and safe life outside of America a reality.
